How to Find Private Yoga Clients

Now before we begin, this isn’t meant to shame yoga studios! Yoga studios will always be a main core to my teachings and personal practice. I am very thankful & fulfilled with the yoga studio gigs I have right now and community of support. The purpose is to encourage yoga teachers to diversify their income to come from other sources besides only relying on studios.

When I first graduated YTT I was shocked at how many yoga teaching opportunities there actually were but even more stunned at how low the pay really was. I realized in a “saturated” industry the problem isn’t that there aren’t enough teaching opportunities, but that majority of them weren’t sustainable to live off of.

I shortly stumbled upon an online self paced business course specifically for yoga teachers to build their private yoga business and realized right there that this was the way I should go to teach my passion and build a sustainable business.

Having a lot of mindset blockages, I wondered to myself do people actually pay for this? and why would anyone actually want to spend this much money on yoga with all the free stuff out there.

But even with this mindset blockage I knew other teachers were doing it, and there had to be a way I could too. So, I took the leap of faith and invested in myself and bought the course. Within 1 week I signed on 2 new private yoga clients made back my ROI from the course and more! and within 2 weeks I brought home my first 4 figure check.

So here’s exactly what I learned, and how to implement it for yourself. Cheers to finding new private yoga clients that are about to come your way!

MakE Private Yoga Your Niche

The riches really are in the niches. Private yoga is a very niched that requires a strategic approach to break into. I realized, yes, the truth is there are a lot of people out there who aren’t actively seeking private yoga and are perfectly content with their studio & free classes which is totally OK!

But I also realized there actually are people out there seeking a private yoga instructor and willing to invest. To them the benefits of private yoga far out weigh the cost. Even though the population of potential clients may feel smaller than what you are used to, the great news is that you don’t need a ton of clients to have a sustainable business, you just need to find a few of the right ones to be set.

So now you are probably wondering, but how do I find these clients then?

5 Tips to Find Private Yoga Clients

Tip #1: Word of mouth gets the word out!! Never underestimate the power of a classic strategy that stands the test of time. Make private yoga your niche and start owning the role. Instead of saying you are a yoga teacher, start telling everyone you are a private yoga teacher. Make it known that you are the go to expert for private yoga. The truth is that your existing network likely has people that are interested in private yoga, and once you start getting clients they too will become your best advocate for word of mouth.

Tip #2: Know where to find your clients. This strategy goes beyond teaching a ton of studios secretly hoping someone will finally hire you as your private yoga teacher. 95% of my private yoga clients come from outside the studio because many of my clients don’t want to be in a studio at all. It’s no wonder so many yoga teachers struggle to find private yoga clients. Take a moment to pinpoint exactly where your ideal clients hang out and shift your marketing focus there. I’ve found that most clients find me on a quick google search for phrases like “private yoga lessons near me”. Your ideal client is likely looking to get direct to the source with a teacher who specializes themselves as a private yoga teacher.

p.s - its not impossible to find private yoga clients in the studio (I even have a studio strategy I teach in private yoga biz academy), but I have found it takes more time to achieve and requires more relationship building. Students don’t go to studio classes to find private yoga teachers, but when they do find a teacher they really like some of them may in fact convert to private clients. But it’s not the quickest and most reliable way to find clients with all the resources online to market yourself. There’s also likely to be rules involved with the studio as well with studios taking a certain cut of the payout.

Tip 3# Be aggressive with marketing. Don’t be afraid to be assertive with your marketing strategy. Yoga teachers especially fear that they are coming off as too pushy and don’t want a bad rep. The truth is right when you think you are pushing too hard, thats exactly when you should keep going. Consider your own buying patterns- when you make an investment in yourself, it likely involves careful consideration and repeat exposure. Keep consistently showing up in your marketing, even if you don't see immediate results. Trust that the clients meant to work with you will come when they are ready.

Tip #4 Diversify your marketing. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket! Marketing is constantly evolving and it’s essential that we adapt. What works for some might not work for others. Get out of your comfort zone and start marketing yourself in new ways. Explore different platforms & resources like; thumbtack, lessons, bark, yelp, instagram, TikTok, email marketing, blogging, next door, networking with others in the health and wellness industry, leaving business cards at spas and the list goes on. The opportunities for marketing are abundant. If one approach doesn’t work too well, move onto the next. Marketing outcomes is just information you determine what to do with it, not a reflection of your worth as a teacher.

Tip #5 Heal your relationship with money. Take the time to really address and heal any beliefs that make you doubt your worthiness around money. And also ask yourself are these actually your beliefs, or is it someone’s else beliefs forced on you. There’s such a negative stigma around money in the yoga community and it’s time to break that. You deserve stability, but it’s starts with you believing that yourself 🫶
